Musical Director
Brass band music has been in my blood since a very early age.
My grandfather, Ted Trewartha, was a euphonium player of great note in
the Bendigo region and instilled the love of brass music into me.
In fact, at the age of ten, I showed an interest in learning the
cornet, so within 2 weeks Pop had bought me one and my lessons began.
Finding a place in the brass brand movement in Bendigo was not
hard, with a number of very good bands existing and soon, along with
my grandfather, decided that City of Bendigo Brass Band would be my
home. This has been the case for the past 26 years, through
thick and thin. For the most I have played either a Tenor Horn
or Euphonium, however, in 2001 I was given the privilege of leading
the band as Musical Director, when Trevor Trewartha (uncle) decided to
hang up the baton. The past five years have been extremely
rewarding and the band has performed on a variety of different stages
in a variety of communities.
I have been fortunate to have some very talented musicians at my
disposal over these years, along with a number of extremely dedicated
people who have simplified the job of running the band.
I would encourage anyone who is even mildly interested in
performing brass music in public to consider dropping into one of our
Wednesday night rehearsals to see what it's all about. We are a
great bunch, ranging in age from 10 to 80. So please consider
City of Bendigo Brass Band as a possible team to get to know and play
some great music with.
